The Houston Texans should have prime-time cachet on the 2024 NFL schedule

For 99 percent of their content, no one promotes it better than the NFL, but for some reason the league is very cautious about when the schedule is released. Rumor has it that it’s coming soon. It’s an event that fans of all 32 NFL teams can look forward to, even fans of the worst team. You know how I know that? Because in 2021 and 2022, there was no worse team than the Houston Texans, and I was STILL counting down the days, hours, and minutes until the schedule was released.

This time is completely different from the last two years. After a 2023 season in which the Texans played 16 games from exactly noon Sunday, all the way to a prime-time finale in Indianapolis, the 2024 schedule will look much more like that of the strongest of the Kubiak and O’Brien eras . Expect plenty of primetime games, plenty of late Sunday afternoon games, and maybe even some international intrigue.

In short, this should be the most exciting schedule outing in Texans history! If there is any genius who will listen to me, I have four wishes for the 2024 Houston Texans schedule. Here they are:

No openings in Kansas City, please!
Each season opens with the defending Super Bowl champion hosting the first game of the season. Rumors are already swirling that the Texans will open the season in Kansas City to take on the Chiefs. Personally, I prefer to let someone else handle this matter. Maybe I still have PTSD from the Texans traveling to Kansas City in 2020 in this same scenario, a blowout loss, but I’d rather start the season with an easier opener than this one.

Cowboys at Thanksgiving, YES PLEASE!
Now, as for the nationally televised games I’m here for, give me the Cowboys in Dallas on Thanksgiving. Of course, the Cowboys, along with the Lions, are the traditional Thanksgiving hosts each season. It’s very rare for the Texans and Cowboys to face each other in the regular season, let alone in Dallas. Add in the burgeoning CJ Stroud-Micah Parsons comedy duo that emerged this offseason, as well as the two Diggs brothers, Stefon and Travon, going against each other, and it has some real ratings potential.

Give us a game in London!
The league named hosts for international games several weeks ago, and two of them are Minnesota and Jacksonville, both of which host games in London. The two would be considered road opponents for the Texans. This is the one I would bet on, the Texans playing in London. They last traveled overseas in 2019, where they defeated the Jags by a score of 26-3.

No games on Christmas Day, please!
After the success of last season’s Christmas Day broadcasts, the NFL announced a few months ago that it would broadcast two games on television this Christmas. The big difference, however, is that Christmas falls on a Wednesday this season, which means the four teams playing on Christmas Day will play on the Saturday of the previous weekend, which also means they will have two short weeks in a row. six days between a Sunday and Saturday match and during the days between Saturday and Christmas. Keep in mind that we are in the final month of the season, where a playoff campaign is underway. NO THANKS!
