Two dogs attacked 18-year-old in Philadelphia and were shot by police

A Philadelphia Police Department officer was placed on leave after shooting two dogs in West Philadelphia after they attacked a young woman.

In a press release, Philadelphia police said officers responded to a 911 call shortly before 9 a.m. Wednesday about “a screaming woman being attacked by dogs.”

When officers arrived at the scene, they saw three dogs fighting with each other. One officer “fired his weapon multiple times, striking and fatally wounding two dogs,” one of which was a stray and one of which was a pet.

According to police, the incident occurred when the victim, an 18-year-old woman, was walking down the street and a 57-year-old man called her for help because two pit bulls were fighting on his porch.

The victim “approached the dogs and used pepper spray on them, which succeeded in separating one of the suspected stray pit bulls from the resident’s dog,” police said.
