Construction accident in Chicago: 1 worker killed, 1 seriously injured after collapse at UChicago Medicine, Chicago fire department says

CHICAGO (WLS) — A construction worker has died after a collapse at UChicago Hospital in Hyde Park, the Chicago Fire Department said.

The incident occurred around noon at UChicago Medicine’s Comprehensive Cancer Center on Maryland Street near 59th Street, the Chicago Fire Department said.

According to officials, two workers were on scaffolding building the elevator shaft when they believed strong winds caused the scaffolding to collapse.

One person was found dead at the scene of the accident, the Chicago Fire Department said.

One worker was hospitalized in critical condition.
