30-year-old charged with kidnapping in connection with 2023 incident

MORGAN COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) said a 30-year-old man is facing additional charges concerning a 2023 arrest.

On June 4, deputies executed a felony grand jury warrant for Eric Scott Thomas. Thomas is charged with second-degree kidnapping in connection to his arrest in 2023.

Officers said that Thomas was previously charged with attempted murder and robbery in connection with stealing a car, among other charges.

A woman reported that her vehicle was stolen while walking along Perkins Wood Road.

According to MCSO, they found a vehicle matching the description provided and Thomas proceeded to run from them. During the chase, Thomas fired shots at officers from the vehicle using a semi-automatic rifle.

Deputies said that the car stopped at a residence near Wilson Mountain Road and Thomas began to run on foot. He was located hiding under a home thereafter by a K9 unit.

He was transported to Decatur Morgan Hospital before being booked into the Morgan County Jail.

According to records, Thomas was charged with first-degree robbery, attempted murder, three counts of failing to stop at traffic signs, attempting to run from a police officer, resisting arrest, reckless driving, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of Marijuana.

Thomas remains in the Morgan County Jail on a bond of $302,400.
