Man accused of murdering Richmond police officer found dead in cell

PENDLETON, Ind. – The man accused of murdering Richmond police officer Seara Burton has been found dead at the Pendleton Correctional Facility.

Philip M. Lee was being held at the facility while awaiting trial for Burton’s murder. Indiana State Police said Lee was found unconscious in his cell at about 12:46 a.m. Thursday. First aid was administered, but Lee was pronounced dead.


The Indiana State Police are investigating Lee’s death with assistance from the Madison County Coroner’s Office and the Indiana Department of Correction.

“The results of the toxicology examination and autopsy are still pending, but there is no suspicion of foul play,” the state police said in a press release.
