Suspected sex offender on the run in Cienfuegos

Residents of the Cuban province Cienfuegos have warned on social media about a suspected sex offender who is at large in this central Cuban city. Several Facebook profiles have identified the fugitive as Dunian Hernandeza resident of Reina Street in Cienfuegos who allegedly attempted to rape a 14-year-old girl on Tuesday.

The man reportedly “attacked a young girl on 35th Street between 52nd and 54th Streets” on Tuesday. “He put a knife to her throat and raped her. Police tried to catch him but were unsuccessful!” reads a post by a social media user. Neighbors reportedly witnessed the moment when police arrived to accompany her to the station to file a formal complaint against the attacker, according to a photo posted in the comments section.

The news has outraged residents of the city of Cienfuegos, with social media suggesting they take to the streets armed with machetes and sticks to catch the man. He was reportedly seen in the Buenavista neighborhood around midday.

On Wednesday, another suspected sex offender, a man nicknamed “Timba,” was arrested in Santiago de CubaHe allegedly raped a 14- to 15-year-old girl on Tuesday night, who is now in hospital.
