Buffalo restaurant turns to crowdfunding platform to fuel expansion

BUFFALO, N.Y. — As it strives to grow internally, Salty Chefs is looking to turn its best customers into investors.

The restaurant, which opened two years ago at 111 Genesee St. in Buffalo, is adding takeout offerings as well as more dining options to complement business coming from area hospitals and corporate offices .

Owners David and Donna Viertel launched a campaign June 1 with Honeycomb Credit to fund the effort, with the goal of raising between $25,000 and $50,000 by the end of the month. Already, eight investors had signed for $4,300.
