Man charged after fatal traffic accident for Spencerport teenager, faces trial

PARMA, NY – Alexander Hackett, the man accused of driving while intoxicated and causing a crash that killed an 18-year-old Spencerport High School graduate, is due back in court Thursday morning.

He is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing. The 33-year-old is accused of negligent homicide. According to court documents, Hackett admitted to drinking four beers before getting behind the wheel.

Maria Eichas died early Sunday morning at the scene of a crash on Burritt Road in Parma. A passenger in her car was injured. Eichas was a singer in a band and the Spencerport community came together Tuesday to mourn her death.

A GoFundMe campaign raised more than $50,000 to cover Eichas’ funeral costs and other unexpected expenses, and dozens of flowers were laid at a makeshift memorial at the crash site.
