Jesus Cortes-Padilla arrested for sexual abuse of minors and prostitution in Madera County, deputies say

MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A man was arrested after allegedly sexually assaulting two juveniles, including a child under the age of 14, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday.

Officials say their investigative division was contacted by two victims who said they were sexually assaulted by 35-year-old Jesus Cortes-Padilla. Based on their statements, an investigation was launched.

During the course of their investigation, investigators said they identified additional victims, both juveniles and adults, who reported sexual harassment, requests for sexual favors and inappropriate behavior on the part of Cortes-Padilla.

On Tuesday, Cortes-Padilla was arrested on numerous charges, including attempted lewd and lascivious acts on a child under 14, sexual battery on a child under 18 and solicitation of prostitution, according to officials. He is currently being held in the Madera County Jail.

On Wednesday, investigators filed a motion to deny release and increase bail, which was granted.

“Our investigators have been working tirelessly on this case for some time. They recognize a pattern of behavior with Cortes-Padilla and know that he attempts to lure girls and women with promises of money,” said Madera County Sheriff Tyson Pogue. “Many of these victims are hesitant to come forward for fear that they will be charged or that he may seek revenge. We ask each of them to come forward and allow us to seek justice on their behalf.”

Deputies believe Cortes-Padilla may have victimized even more people in the community. Anyone who is a victim or believes they know someone who is a victim is asked to contact the office at 559-675-7770. Tips can also be emailed to MCSOTip@maderacountycom.
