Man found dead in Tooele, Utah, after family member tried to pick him up from work

TOOELE, Utah (ABC4) — A man was found dead in Tooele Wednesday afternoon after emergency responders received a call about cardiac arrest.

The man was found by a family member who went to pick him up from work, officials said. The relative called emergency services about the man’s cardiac arrest shortly after 4:15 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

That family member continued CPR until firefighters arrived at the scene, but the man was pronounced dead after emergency responders arrived, officials said.

John Smith of the North Tooele Fire District told ABC4.com that the man works for a company that handles hazardous materials, which is why hazardous materials crews rushed to the scene.

Officials said it was not clear whether the man’s heart attack was caused by the hazardous materials he had been working with. Smith said initial investigations showed there were no obvious signs that led officials to believe hazardous materials played a role.

The man’s identity will not be released until family members have been contacted. The coroner’s inquest is pending.
