Gregg Doyel suspended after Caitlin Clark exchange

The Indianapolis reporter who went viral for an awkward exchange with the Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark was suspended over the incident.

After being selected number one overall in the WNBA Draft, Clark appeared in Indianapolis for her introductory press conference. During the conference IndyStar reporter Gregg Doyle awkwardly made a heart gesture with his hands – the same gesture Clark is known to make towards her family at games. When Clark explained that this was a matter between her and her family, Doyel said, “Start doing it to me and we’ll get along fine.”

Doyel has come under intense scrutiny online. In response, he wrote a column explaining his position and apologizing to Clark.

Unfortunately, that apology didn’t go down well when users discovered that he had made similar questionable comments toward female athletes in the past.

According to sports journalist Bob KravitzDoyel was suspended IndyStar. Sources told Kravitz that Doyel is expected to return from his suspension on Monday. He hasn’t posted on IndyStar since April 29th.

Additionally, Doyel will not be attending

all Fever games this season. Instead, he will write columns after watching the team from home.

Kravitz reached out to Doyel on Tuesday, but he declined to address the issue.
