Flight students lose training hours and money after academy owner dies in crash

HOLLYWOOD, Florida. – Students at Atlantis Flight Academy are left in limbo after their flight school was suddenly closed.

The academy’s owner, Alfredo Diaz, his wife Ksenia Shanina and their three-year-old son died in a plane crash in Virginia in March.

The flight school was immediately closed and the students who had completed hundreds of hours of flying and paid tens of thousands of dollars for training were told that their time and money were lost forever.

They have been fighting for months to get it back.

Immediately after the murder of the school owner, creditors went to court and filed large claims against the company.

Some claims were for over half a million dollars each.

An estate attorney for the owners described the situation as extremely tragic and said in a statement to Local 10 News:

“…Since the owners of the flight school are all deceased, the estate must go through the legal process and the creditors are paid in a specific order. In this case, they are bank loans that are considered secured creditors and unfortunately have priority over the students. It is an unfortunate situation, but the law must be followed.”

The legal disputes could last for several years.
