Houston police officer shoots suspect

Houston police said they were dispatched to the Tanglewilde Apartments around 3:30 p.m. after a woman saw two people entering her unit on a doorbell camera.

HOUSTON — A Houston Police Department officer shot and killed a suspect on the West Side Wednesday.

It happened when officers responded to a burglary call at the Flats on Tanglewilde Apartments on Tanglewilde Street just north of Westheimer Road near Gessner Road.

Police said they were dispatched around 3:30 p.m. after a woman saw two people entering her unit through a doorbell camera.

When police arrived on scene, at least one man came out of the apartment. Then there was a call saying “officers need help.”

People who live in the apartment complex told KHOU 11 reporter Katiera Winfrey that they saw emergency personnel taking a person out of the apartment on a stretcher from the second floor elevator.

They said it was a frightening scene because they were not used to seeing this type of police presence in their building.

“I just got home from work, I walked in and I’m walking into my apartment and there’s a stream of police and then we heard four or five really loud gunshots in the hallway,” said a Haven resident Pleasant.

This is a developing story. We will update if/when we get more information.
