First level weather warning: Extreme heat will continue until Friday

A First Alert weather warning is in effect until Friday to raise awareness of the increased risk of heat-related illness due to extreme heat in the deserts of Southern California.

A heat advisory went into effect for the entire Coachella Valley at 10 a.m. Wednesday. While temperatures in the valley floor don’t appear to be breaking records, this is the first major heat of the 2024 summer season.

Take the signs and symptoms of heat-related illness seriously. Heat is the leading cause of weather-related death.

Stronger winds are forecast for Friday night, with gusts of 30-35 mph, especially in wind-prone communities. Temperatures will drop to around 105° by Sunday before further warming sets in.
