Zilla Young arrested after attempting a sideshow in San Diego

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) – Police got wind of a planned takeover of a fair in San Diego over the weekend and triggered a response that ended with several arrests.

According to San Diego Police officials, the Traffic and Western Divisions prevented a group of about 200 people from attacking the following intersections on Saturday:


  • Genesee Avenue and Science Center Drive
  • Ruffin Road and Ridgehaven Court
  • Fashion Valley Road and Riverwalk Drive
  • 2100 block of Market Street
  • Harvest Road and Airway Road

The group managed to take over an intersection at the intersection of Kenwood and Bancroft Drive in Spring Valley, causing an estimated $13,800 in damage to the roadway, police said.

Then officers in the area of ​​Fashion Valley Road and Riverwalk Drive heard gunshots as a white Kia sedan sped away from the scene. The vehicle was stopped and three juveniles were arrested. Police said an unserialized “ghost gun” was found in the vehicle. One of the juveniles was arrested and booked into the juvenile hall.

During their operation, police said, “investigative officers” spotted the suspected organizer of the sideshow – Calijah “Zilla” Young – at the intersection of Harvest Road and Airway Road with other attendees attempting to block the road. The group reportedly fled the scene and was stopped several blocks away.

“Zilla” Young was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit vandalism, speeding, reckless driving, aiding and abetting speeding and hindering apprehension. A passenger in the vehicle was also arrested for carrying a concealed weapon after a loaded firearm was found in his possession, police said.

The San Diego Police Department released the following statement regarding the sideshow attempts:

“Drivers who intentionally engage in illegal speed contests, speed displays, including intersection or highway takeovers, car stunts, and other intentional similar acts involving a car are extremely dangerous and deadly to human life. If drivers continue to intentionally drive a vehicle in this manner, with wanton disregard for their own safety and the safety of others, and someone is killed as a result of their driving, they may also be charged with murder.

The San Diego Police Department will not tolerate these illegal and dangerous stunts on our streets. These activities have routinely resulted in loss of life and serious injury throughout the county, state and country. Those who continue to engage in these criminal acts will face arrest and prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.”
