Abdul Rahim sentenced to 10 years in prison for raping a minor

A 34-year-old Abdul Rahim, who sexually abused a 17-year-old girl, was sentenced to life imprisonment (including 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment) and a fine of one lakh rupees. Abdul Rahim of Nayattuvalappil House in Pallikal, Malappuram was convicted by Nilambur Fast Track Special POCSO Court Judge KP Joy.

The relevant incident started on October 29, 2018 when Rahim deliberately lured the minor girl from her house in Nilambur. The rapist took her to Bengaluru and Chennai and sexually abused her. The violence continued until November 13, 2018. The Nilambur police lodged a complaint.

Nilambur Inspector Biju KM led the investigation (currently Perambra DYSP). During investigation, the victim was rescued from Chennai and the suspect who was with her was arrested.

Nilambur police inspector Sunil Pulikkal completed the investigation and filed the charge sheet. Special Prosecutor Sam K. Francis appeared for the State.

The prosecution examined 20 witnesses and presented 28 documents to the court. The convict was sent to Tavanur Central Jail.

If the fine is not paid, Rahim faces another two years in prison. The prison sentence served is considered punishment. If the defendant pays the fine, it must be handed over to the victim.

Questions such as whether this was a grooming jihad case remain unclear. Who sponsored the multi-city trips that allowed Rahim to remain hidden for over two weeks? Many Muslims are actively propagating the people and love jihad in Kerala. Many Hindus fear that such incidents will increase if the Islamists gain a majority, as in Malappuram.
