Boxing world champion Andrew Tham dies at the age of 28 in motorcycle accident

The boxing community mourns the loss of one of its members.

Andreas Tham died on June 2, three days after a motorcycle accident in Cumbernauld, Scotland, his management company confirmed. He was 28.

“On behalf of the Tham family, it is with great sadness that St Andrew’s Sporting Club confirms the tragic passing of Andy Tham,” the organisation wrote on X, formerly Twitter, on June 4. “Andy was a champion in the ring and a personality outside of it. It was an honour to have him in our stable throughout his career as a professional boxer and we will all miss him greatly.”

The boxer, who began his professional boxing career in 2018 and won a featherweight championship title in September, suffered life-threatening injuries in a collision with a Hyundai Tucson at 6:50 p.m. on May 30. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died, Scottish police said in a press release.
