Camp Flashback is coming to Tifft Nature Reserve this Friday

BUFFALO, NY — For our most buffalo story of the day, 2 On Your Side takes you to summer camp. It is a summer camp for adults.

Camp Flashback will take place this Friday evening at the Tifft Nature Reserve and promises to take you back to your childhood.

“This is the first time we’ve done a retro camp-themed event,” said Gabrielle Graham, community engagement manager for the Buffalo Museum of Science and Tifft.

This Friday evening, instead of being at the Buffalo Museum of Science, Science After Hours is hosting a field trip to the Tifft Nature Preserve.

“We want to take advantage of the good weather and get people who are used to being at the museum to try a different environment and also just celebrate people who are already here at Tifft,” Gabrielle Graham said.

This is an event for adults 21 and over.

Gabrielle Graham, community engagement manager for the museum and Tifft, told us how the idea came about.

“We know that our discovery camps, at the Science Museum and at Tifft, sell out very quickly for all the little kids, and we thought, you know, I think the adults should have fun too, so as we went in In the camp atmosphere, our staff got to practice making messes, we got our friendship bracelet back, our muscle memory, and as excited as we are about all these activities, we know that the people who will come to attend at the event are going to have a great time too,” said Gabrielle Graham.

In addition to crafts, Blasdell’s Wild Birds Unlimited will help campers make pinecone bird feeders and give you tips on how to improve bird habitat around your home.

“We’re going to be joined by our local experts from the Buffalo Ornithological Society, they’re a research affiliate of the museum, and they’re going to help people identify some of the birds that you’ll see around Tifft, or hear as well,” said Gabrielle Graham.

The science museum’s photo club will also be present with tips and tricks for taking beautiful nature photos.

“The House of Munch food truck will be there with funnel cakes and fries. They’re cash only, so bring cash if you’re hungry, and we also have Chilly Billy Ice Cream for those classic characters on a stick of ice,” said Gabrielle Graham.

They will organize activities inside the educational center and if it rains, they can move everything inside.
