Children alert father to sexual assault

An Odessa man was booked into the Ector County Jail Monday after witnesses reported seeing him raping a woman in an alley near 42nd Street and McKnight Drive.

According to Odessa police, around 5:45 p.m., a man called 911 and reported seeing someone being raped in an alley behind the 400 block of Douglas Drive.

When officers arrived, the man told them his children alerted him that something was happening in the alley and when he looked, he heard a woman screaming for help during a rape.

The woman told officers she was walking down the alley when a man, later identified as Artemio Hart, grabbed her and dragged her toward a dumpster, the report said. She said he put his hand around her mouth, restricting her breathing, forced her to the ground and sexually assaulted her while she begged him to stop.

According to the report, she hit and scratched Hart to get him to stop.

Hart told officers that he had originally planned to rob the woman, but when she said she had no money, he decided to rape her after watching “rape porn” for some time, the report said.

Officers found the woman’s belongings and signs of a struggle in the alley, the report said.

Hart was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and possession of a controlled substance, less than one gram. He remains in the Ector County Jail on a bond totaling $110,000.
