Recall alert: Mercedes-Benz EQE, EQS sedans and SUVs

Mercedes has issued a recall for 14,912 electric vehicles (EVs) because they may unexpectedly lose power.

Mercedes tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that the batteries themselves are probably fine, but a software glitch could cause the car to disable them. “The driver receives no warning due to the nature of the failure mechanism,” the company says.

Dealers will fix the problem with a software update. Mercedes cannot send this update over the air, so owners will have to bring their cars in for patching. Software updates are usually quick service appointments.
