New Jersey flight attendant killed in accident on Interstate 78

A 60-year-old Pennsylvania woman was killed in a traffic crash on Interstate 78 in Hunterdon County last week, officials said.

Jennifer L. Friedel-Hoffman was driving her car westbound around 9 a.m. on May 29 when she veered onto the right shoulder and struck the left rear of an unoccupied semi-truck, state police said. Her car then spun out and struck a car in the right lane.

Friedel-Hoffman, from Northampton, was taken to hospital with serious injuries but died the same evening.

A 30-year-old Elizabeth man who was standing in front of the tractor-trailer suffered minor injuries in the crash near mile marker 20.6 in Lebanon Borough, officials said.

Friedel-Hoffman, a married mother of two sons, worked as a flight attendant for United Airlines in Newark for the past 37 years, according to an online obituary. She also leaves behind two sisters, a brother and numerous other relatives.

Her obituary states that Friedel-Hoffman helped many people during her years of traveling to India with United.

“In her normal journey, which took her back to India time and again, she became a true humanitarian. She found homes, jobs and financially supported poor children who married, started families and adopted more children. They were always happy to see her for over 15 years.”

Friedel-Hoffman graduated from Northampton High School and Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in special education.
