Fire in food warehouse is still being investigated

(Intimate News)

The fire brigade is convinced that the fire that destroyed the facilities of a company whose packed lunches led to numerous poisonings among schoolchildren in the town of Lamia was the result of arson.

However, they are still looking for a motive, which may include avoiding inspections.

The fire destroyed the freezing and storage facilities of Giannitsis Group SA on May 19, just days after 63 students in seven primary schools in Lamia developed symptoms of food poisoning from eating food prepared by the company. Production was not affected.

Fire department investigators say surveillance cameras were badly damaged.

The investigation also focuses on an email that an insurance representative of the food company sent to its insurer five days before the fire, in which he demanded an increase in compensation in the event of the fire from 4.5 to 7 million euros.
