Concord man arrested for alleged involvement in Capitol breach on January 6

Jay Robert Thaxton, 49, of Concord, is charged with obstructing law enforcement during a riot. He is also charged with four misdemeanors, including entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly conduct in a Capitol building or grounds and obstructing or impeding passage in a Capitol building or grounds.

Thaxton was arrested in Charlotte and is expected to make his first appearance in court in the Western District of North Carolina.

According to court documents, Thaxton helped other rioters break through the police bike racks that had been set up as a barricade.

The rioters finally managed to break through the police cordon.

Thaxton was arrested on the night of January 6 for violating a curfew.
