Alleged rapist charged after standoff in Normandy

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Missouri – The St. Louis County District Attorney’s Office has filed charges against a man who allegedly raped and held a woman captive.

According to the Normandy Police Department’s probable cause statement, the incident occurred on the evening of May 30 on Colton Drive in Normandy.

According to police, Michael I. Liggins Jr. took a woman to his home, refused to let her leave, raped her and showed her a firearm in a threatening manner.

The woman eventually managed to escape from the house where the police were waiting.

According to police, Liggins barricaded himself in the house for four hours and refused to comply with the order.

Officers from multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the area, including police departments from Normandy, Clayton, St. Ann and St. Louis counties, the North County Police Cooperative and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Liggins was taken from the house at around 12:30 a.m. on May 31 and placed in an ambulance.

Liggins was charged with first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy, first-degree kidnapping, armed criminal action and resisting arrest. Liggins remains in custody with bail set at only $1 million. He is due in court next week to discuss a bail reduction.
