Scottish featherweight boxing champion Andrew Tham died a few days after suffering serious injuries in a motorcycle accident.

He was 28.

According to the BBC, Tham, who was riding a Kawasaki motorcycle, collided with a Hyundai in Cumbernauld, a village in Scotland.

Tham was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow and died there on Sunday.

Tham, who stood 6ft 2in (1.88m) during his professional career, won the Scottish featherweight championship from Jack Turner last September.

“Andy was a champion in the ring and a personality outside of it. It was an honour to have him in our stable throughout his professional boxing career and we will all miss him very much,” St. Andrews Sporting Club, which managed Tham, wrote in a post on X on Tuesday.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. We ask that you respect their privacy during this difficult time.”

British Boxing Control, the governing body for British boxing, expressed its condolences.

“The British Boxing Board of Control extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Andrew Tham following his tragic death,” the board wrote on X. “Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.”

Tham lost a non-title fight to George Stewart last month.

“It was an absolute honour and a pleasure to share the ring with him two weeks ago – a true warrior,” Stewart said, according to the BBC.

“I have no words to describe this devastating news – it is heartbreaking.”
