Houston Texans HC DeMeco Ryans talks approach to getting the best version of the offense

We’ve talked a lot about what the Houston Texans have been doing this offseason. Shoot, we could just keep going because this is probably one of the best offseasons in recent memory. Playmaker after playmaker wanted to join head coach DeMeco Ryans’ already special roster. Whether in free agency, via trade or in the draft, the Texans staff has put together one of the most elite teams in the NFL.

With so many stars and playmakers to hand the ball to and let them be themselves, conflicts can arise due to egos that have built up over time – because let’s face it, some Texans think they must be the ones making the game when you compile the game’s player list.

Despite this, it seems like Ryans is keeping his guys on the status quo: just win games. When speaking with the media, Ryans commented on his approach to ensuring his playmakers give the team the best possible version of their offense.

“Again, for all the guys we have, talk about playmakers, you talk about all the guys at different positions,” Ryans said.

“At the end of the day, every guy we have cares about winning. It doesn’t matter who touches the ball. Who the number one receiver is, how many touches Joe (Mixon) gets. How many touches Dameon (Pierce) gets, it doesn’t matter. I always tell our coaches, what do we have to do that week to win the game, that’s what we’ll always do we have to get that win that week.”

Obviously, we know it all starts with quarterback CJ Stroud and flows from there. Last season, the Texans had an above-average offense, but it has since reached an elite level. WR Nico Collins returns after his 1,000-yard season and contract extension, WR Tank Dell enters his second season after showing shocking potential even as a rookie, TE Dalton Shultz is also back, and then you look at the former standout rookie RB Dameon Pierce returning to the fold.

But now there are even more mouths to feed with the additions of WR Stefon Diggs and RB Joe Mixon who were traded for this offseason and are both premier players at their respective positions.

There is only one ball to deal to all of these stars and it will be imperative to put them in the best position to succeed – for the team. This is exactly what Ryans preaches to not only his players, but his team as well. The ceiling for this Texas offense and this team as a whole is beyond high, but the question is, will they all be able to come together under Ryan’s idea of what he expects from them?
