Dog killed during investigation in Guyton

GUYTON, Ga. (WSAV) – An Effingham County officer killed a dog that attacked him during an investigation in Guyton on Tuesday.

According to the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, officers arrived at 1409 Courthouse Road around 4:30 p.m. and found a man and woman in the front yard.


According to ECSO, the man ran into the house where another woman was and barricaded the door.

The man eventually surrendered, and when an officer took the woman into custody inside the home, the dog attacked, officials said.

The dog was shot and died at the scene of the accident.

ECSO said the deputy was taken to the hospital for treatment but is expected to recover.

Three people have now been taken into custody. It was initially unclear what charges they are facing.
