Three-year-old boy dies in accident at Rockhampton Showgrounds

A three-year-old boy has tragically died after being hit by a car at a popular fairground.

The child was found in critical condition at the Rockhampton Showgrounds on Exhibition Road in Central Queensland at around 4.30pm on Tuesday.

Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics treated him at the scene, but the boy could not be saved.

A woman in her 40s was taken to Rockhampton Hospital in a stable condition.

A QAS spokesman said the woman did not appear to have suffered any injuries and has since been released.

The tragedy occurred a week before the start of the Rockhampton Agricultural Show.

It is unclear why the child was at the fairgrounds before the event.
