Ascension Healthcare reported progress in recovering from a cybersecurity incident

Ascension Health said it will soon be fully restored following a cybersecurity incident identified on May 8. The healthcare company issued an updated statement saying that access to electronic health records has been restored in the Florida, Alabama and Austin markets. An Ascension spokesperson said full EHR restoration is expected by June 14. Here is the June 4 statement: “Ascension continues to work expeditiously with industry-leading cybersecurity experts to securely restore systems across our network. Please know that our hospitals and facilities remain open and providing patient care. Patients should continue to visit the regional updates section of this webpage for the latest state-level information. As we have previously communicated, restoring access to electronic health records has been among the top priorities of our recovery process. We are encouraged to report positive developments in this effort and can announce that we have successfully restored EHR access in our Florida, Alabama and Austin markets. Based on what we have learned about this process so far, we are working toward completing EHR recovery across our entire department by the end of the week ending June 14. As EHR connectivity is restored across our entire networks, physicians will be able to access patient records as they did prior to this incident. While these are promising developments in our recovery efforts, our investigation into this incident as well as the remediation of additional systems is ongoing. This is a complex process and will take some time to complete. Additionally, Ascension Rx retail, home delivery and specialty pharmacies are now open and able to meet your prescription needs. This means healthcare providers can submit prescriptions electronically and send prescriptions to Ascension Rx pharmacies for their patients. Finally, we would like to once again thank our patients and community for your support during this time and our dedicated physicians who continue to provide high-quality care.” Across the Country: National Coverage from WVTM 13
