Gang rape: Three youths sentenced to 20 years in prison for gang rape | News from Bengaluru

Bengaluru: A special city court for cases registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, 2012 on Monday sentenced three youths to 20 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 85,000 each for gang-raping a 16-year-old girl in June 2019. The convicts are S. Krishna, 24, of Binnypet, P. Abhilash alias Abhi, 23, of KP Agrahara and M. Yateesh Kumar alias Yateesh, 25, of Binnypet. All three worked for different private companies. According to the police chargesheet, prime suspect Krishna hatched the plan to gang-rape the youth after she rejected his suggestions. The three were classmates and the girl was younger than her. At the time of the incident, Krishna was 19 years old, police said. “On June 6, 2019, Krishna sent Yateesh to take the girl to Binnypet railway gate. Yateesh brought her on a non-geared scooter. Yateesh asked her to wait near the gate, returned to Krishna’s house and all three drank alcohol. Yateesh went back to the railway gate, picked her up and took her to Krishna’s house. The victim resisted but was forcibly taken inside and forced to drink alcohol. The three raped her and filmed the act on Krishna’s mobile phone,” the chargesheet said. She then returned home and narrated the incident to her mother, who filed a complaint. JJ Nagar police arrested her on June 8. Public prosecutor Anurevu said Krishna got out on bail, married the girl and produced the photographs in court. “But the girl was a minor at the time and the marriage was void. Although she became hostile, her mother stuck to her statements, which helped lead to the convictions,” Anurevu said.
