Journalist Ben White dies after “short illness”

Journalist Ben White has died, according to his partner.

“It breaks my heart to inform you that Ben passed away on Saturday June 1st after a short illness,” his partner Sara said in a message to his X account on Tuesday June 4th.

“He loved his family, was a journalist, cheered for the Yankees and the Commanders and so much more. He will forever be in my heart and will be missed by so many,” she continued, adding a broken heart emoji.

Further details about the cause of death have not yet been released publicly.

White joined Politico in 2009 as chief economics correspondent and author of the “Morning Money” column, where he regularly reported on finance and public policy, according to his biography on the news site.

Previously, he worked as a Wall Street reporter for The New York Times, During this time, he was awarded a Society of Business Editors and Writers award for his coverage of the financial crisis.

He also worked as a Wall Street correspondent and US banking editor for Financial Times from 2005 to 2007 and has been a contributor to CNBC since 2013.

Following the news of his death, several fellow journalists expressed their condolences on social media.

“What terrible news,” CNN’s Jake Tapper wrote in a social media post. “I am so sorry.”

“Ben was an outstanding reporter and human being. We all looked up to him,” Brian Stelter added in another message.

In a third homage Chuck Todd, chief political analyst at NBC News, wrote: “I am simply at a loss for words. Ben is a former hotline operator and was, frankly, one of the good guys, both as a person and as a journalist. I am so sorry for his family.”
