Teenager killed, three others injured in shooting in Prince William County

A 15-year-old boy was killed and three others injured, including a second teenager, on Monday in what police in Prince William County, Virginia, said was a “targeted shooting” in a row house development in the Triangle area of the county.

The attack occurred at about 10:30 p.m. behind a row of townhouses in the 3700 block of Masthead Trail, where the four victims, all men between the ages of 15 and 20, were gathered on a lawn, police spokeswoman Officer Renee Carr said.

One or more passersby, “probably on foot,” opened fire on the group, she said, adding: “It was not an accident, that much we know.”

The 15-year-old died in hospital, Carr said, but none of the other victims were seriously injured. She said a 16-year-old suffered a graze wound and two men, ages 18 and 20, were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police generally do not publicly release the names of victims who were not killed, and Virginia law prohibits authorities from releasing the names of juvenile victims even in homicide cases. Carr said she could not provide further details about the shooting, which is under investigation.
