Shots fired at passing vehicles in San Jacinto, one man died

A man apparently randomly shot at several cars in San Jacinto, killing one person and injuring another on Tuesday.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, several vehicles were struck by gunfire before officers responded to a 911 call about the shooting near the corner of West Seventh and South San Jacinto streets at 7:05 a.m.

Videos from the crime scene showed bullet holes in some cars hours later.

Two people with gunshot wounds were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, a department news release said.

According to the sheriff’s office, Victor Hugo Leon was one of the victims. The 42-year-old man from San Jacinto was later pronounced dead.

Julio Cesar Rodarte, 39, of San Jacinto was identified by sheriff’s officials as the suspected shooter.

He was booked into the Larry Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on suspicion of murder and 10 counts of attempted murder, sheriff’s officials said.

On the day of the shooting, officers cordoned off the area where the incident was reported and called the department’s homicide unit and coroner’s office to the scene.

There are no other suspects, officials said. No further details were released.
