Diocese of Buffalo puts St. Jude Center up for sale

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Diocese of Buffalo has put another of its properties up for sale, this time the St. Jude Center on Ellicott Street, it announced Tuesday.

The building, located at 760 Ellicott, has an attached carriage house that serves as the current chapel. The 8,755 square foot structure also includes a residence and hall.

Acquired by the diocese in the late 1960s, the structure was built in 1856 as the Victoria Hotel, and a two-story addition was added in 1968.

The property is being offered at $1.5 million through Howard Hanna Commercial.

The diocese said the St. Jude Shrine, currently located in the building currently for sale, will be moved to St. Joseph Cathedral.

The St. Jude Center joins the Catholic Center, Christ the King Seminary and the Newman Center at the State University at Buffalo among properties currently for sale by the diocese. WIVB News 4 reported in October that the Diocese of Buffalo offered $100 million to settle hundreds of abuse cases.
