HORRY COUNTY, SC (WBTW) — Two people have been charged after a Galivants Ferry man allegedly sexually assaulted a minor in April, according to arrest warrants obtained by News13.

Jamar Thomas Jakes, 33, is charged with first-degree sexual abuse, violation of the Sexually Transmitted Diseases Act and failure to appear in court; Demeka Pierce, 35, is charged with unlawful endangerment of a child.

Jakes has been held without bail at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center since his May 30 arrest, online booking records show. Pierce, who was also arrested on May 30, posted $2,500 bail and was released a day later. An arrest warrant states Pierce was aware of the incident and did not report it to authorities.

Horry County Police began their investigation on April 22 after responding to a Conway-area home where a sexual assault had been reported on April 15 in the Galivants Ferry area.

The girl told officers that James raped her and touched her inappropriately, a police report said. She also said that James “constantly” came into her room to watch her change and made inappropriate comments.

According to the arrest warrants, after a forensic interview and medical examination, it was determined that James had also transmitted chlamydia and gonorrhea to the minor.
