The driver in the viral court video had his license revoked years ago | News

The internet found the irony of a Michigan man driving a car while facing virtual court for driving with a suspended license hilarious. In fact, the video of Corey Harris behind the wheel during his court appearance went viral and the heinous act prompted the judge to revoke Harris’ bail, which would have forced him to turn himself in.

However, the plot took an unexpected turn. A report from 7 News Detroit brought to light a shocking revelation – the order revoking Harris’s driver’s license was lifted back in January 2022, but was never forwarded to state authorities by the Saginaw County Friend of the Court, a local government agency. The report highlighted that it took “less than five minutes” to search Saginaw County court records to find that the order revoking Harris’s license had been lifted nearly 2 1/2 years ago.

Harris’ driver’s license was initially suspended in 2010 as part of a child support case. He appeared in court remotely to contest the misdemeanor case, which stems from a traffic stop in October 2023 – more than a year and a half after the order suspending his license was lifted. According to 7 News Detroit, the Michigan Secretary of State’s office never received approval from the Saginaw County Friend of the Court in 2022; as a result, Harris’ license was never reissued.

It is reportedly unclear why Harris’ case was not resolved months ago by his public defender or the Pittsfield Township District Attorney’s Office.
