9-year-old motocross rider killed in bizarre accident on race track in California

Motocross rider Brooke Carlton died at the age of 9 after a “strange accident” during a race at a California racetrack.

Carlton was According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, on Sunday, June 2, he was “riding an electric motorcycle and was struck by another juvenile” on a motorcycle at Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found people attempting to resuscitate Carlton, who was unconscious. She was taken to nearby Inland Valley Medical Center, where she died.

The other driver involved in the accident was treated for minor injuries at the racetrack, according to the sheriff’s office.

“Yesterday the good Lord called our dear Brooke Lily to heaven after a freak accident at a local motocross track,” they wrote. “Our whole family is still trying to understand why our Brookie, but we firmly believe that God needed her and called her home to be with Him.”

The post continued: “As we use this time to be with our family, PLEASE keep our family in your thoughts and prayers and hold your loved ones a little tighter for us as we try to navigate this sudden hurdle in our lives. We love you always and forever, Brooke Lily #Iamforbrooke.”

On the fundraising page, which aims to raise $70,000, Carlton was described as “an absolute treasure who can brighten anyone’s day with his warm smile and bright blonde curls.”

“Anyone who REALLY knew Brooke knew she was a tomboy who knew what she wanted and there was no getting around it,” the site says. “One look at her sparkling eyes and wide smile was enough to convince you that the sky was actually pink and purple and that you should ‘buy her an ice cream.’ She loved her parents. She loved her dog, Gunner. She loved her grandparents. Most of all, she loved her brother, Landon.”

Carlton was an ambassador for the motocross brand Go Fast Girls. Her bio page said she loved “being on the track, competing with other girls and going fast!”

Following her death, Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park – located about 70 miles south of Los Angeles – expressed its condolences.

“Due to all legal obligations, we were not allowed to post anything until now,” said an Instagram post on Monday, June 3. “We are truly saddened by the situation. This was such a freak accident, as the parents said. This is not the time to denigrate the racetrack, but a time to think of this little girl and support her family.”

The post ended with the words: “We are a community and will do our part to support the family. May you rest in peace Brooke!”
