Injured cyclist leads to closure of Sherwood Island in Westport: Update

The waterfront state park, located off Exit 18 of I-95, reopened Tuesday.

WESTPORT, CT — According to Connecticut State Police, a police investigation into an injured bicyclist led to the temporary closure of Sherwood Island State Park in Westport on Tuesday morning. The park has since reopened.

In an email to Patch, a State Police spokesperson said Troop G was notified about the injured bicyclist, who was on the Sherwood Island Connector, at around 6:25 a.m.

“EMS was also dispatched,” the spokesperson wrote. “One patient was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Based on initial findings, this incident has been classified as a ‘medical call’ as the patient’s injuries were not caused by a traffic accident.”

No further information was released.
