Shocking cases of horse cruelty rock Ontario County as second incident comes to light – Finger Lakes Daily News

Another disturbing case of horse cruelty from Ontario County.

While investigating an unrelated complaint on Alan Scrivener’s property on Stoddard Road in Hopewell, Ontario County Sheriff’s officers checked a barn and found five horses in 5 to 6 feet of manure. The horses’ hooves were so crooked from years of neglect that they were not regularly examined by a veterinarian. The horses were fed hay but had little water. The horses were removed from the property and are being cared for at a local livestock operation.

When officers checked the area around the barn, several bones were found in another outdoor pen. A search warrant was obtained and the remains of three horses were found on the property.

Scrivener, 72, was charged with five counts of cruelty to animals and failure to provide food and water to a seized animal. The horses are cared for at a local livestock farm.

Scrivener’s arrest is the second horse cruelty arrest in Ontario County this week. On Monday, Edward Perdue was arrested after two dead horses were found on his property on Crowley Road in Farmington, along with four live horses that were malnourished and found standing in 2 to 3 inches of manure.
