Lots of heat, we keep an eye on the storm complexes in the north

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Today’s forecast: The morning hours today should be mostly dry, with temperatures quickly rising to around 90 degrees by midday. A few showers and thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon, while highs will rise to 90 to 95 degrees.

The big question for today again revolves around the possibility of a storm complex approaching from the northwest towards the end of the day. Some of our forecasts call for the storms to remain in the region from late afternoon into the evening, but the probability is low.

Indicative of this potential, the Storm Prediction Center has issued a Level 1/5 (minor) risk of severe weather for much of our region, and a Level 2/5 (minor) risk near and north of the state line. With stronger storms, damaging winds would be the biggest concern, followed by hail.

Rest of this week

The pattern will not change much through Thursday, meaning we will continue to monitor the possibility of storms from the northwest. Seasonally high temperatures will persist, with highs generally just above 35 degrees.

Most forecasts call for a weak front to move through the area late Friday or early Saturday before coming to a standstill on the coast. The main impact would be a slight decrease in humidity, with highs potentially even slightly higher by the weekend, reaching the 35-degree mark.
