Mica Miller case: Pastor’s wife killed herself, sheriff says

Mica Miller, the 30-year-old estranged wife of one South Carolina The pastor took her own life, authorities said on Tuesday. The case gained national attention after family and friends said her death was suspicious and that she feared for her life.

Miller’s body was found an hour away in Lumberton on April 27. North Carolina, authorities said. An initial investigation by the Robeson County coroner determined she appeared to have died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

That finding was made official Tuesday when Robeson County sheriff’s investigators met with Miller’s family and released a detailed timeline of events on her final day.

The young woman called 911 on the afternoon of April 27 and told the dispatcher, “I’m about to do that kill me and I just want my family to know where to find me,” Miller said, according to a statement released Tuesday by the sheriff’s office.

Surveillance video also showed Miller purchasing a 9mm Sig Sauer pistol and ammunition at a pawn shop earlier in the day, according to the statement. She later searched Google for the nearest national park, according to her phone records, investigators said.

“First, on behalf of the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office, I would like to say that we extend our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Mica Miller,” Sheriff Burnis Wilkins said in the statement.

“This incident has received widespread attention throughout Carolina and beyond,” Wilkins said. “I would like to reassure everyone that our criminal investigation and crime scene investigation team carried out a very methodical investigation.”

Miller’s family did not immediately comment after meeting with the sheriff. Inside Edition Digital has reached out for comment from Miller’s sister, Sierra Francis, who requested in court filings to be named administrator of Miller’s estate.

In an affidavit filed in probate court on May 2, Francis had stated: “Mica told me on many occasions, ‘If I end up with a bullet in my head, it won’t be from me, it’ll be from JP.'”

“JP” was Miller’s estranged husband, John-Paul Miller, pastor of Solid Rock Church in Myrtle Beach, where Mica Miller was a youth pastor and very active in church events, according to her friends and family.

According to the woman’s family, the pastor had been served with divorce papers two days before her death.

Francis said in her affidavit that Mica Miller had planned to travel to Kenya as a missionary when her divorce was final.

Francis and many others had pushed for answers and more details about the woman’s death in the days leading up to Tuesday’s statement.

“Rumors and conspiracy theories spread quickly and assumptions were made,” the sheriff said Tuesday.

“Ultimately, however, we must make decisions based on the facts and the evidence collected,” Wilkins added. “While I know it’s not what many people wanted to hear, the evidence is pretty clear and convincing, and we.” “I’m as sad as anyone that this happened,” he said.

“We reviewed many factors that occurred over a period of time that are likely related to the reason for this investigation, but in the end, Mica unfortunately made a tragic decision that ended her life,” the sheriff said.

Investigators also checked the whereabouts of John-Paul Miller on the day of Mica Miller’s death, the statement said.

According to interviews, John-Paul Miller was at a sporting event in Charleston, South Carolina, that day and traffic surveillance cameras captured images of his car driving in that area, the statement said. John-Paul Miller was given the opportunity to attend a separate meeting with Wilkins, investigators and the medical examiner to discuss their findings, and Miller indicated through his attorney that he would not be coming to North Carolina, according to the sheriff’s office to meet with investigators.

In North Carolina, Mica Miller hung up after reporting that she was going to kill herself, the statement said. A dispatcher called back several times, but no one answered, authorities said. According to the statement, the operator was eventually able to locate the woman’s cell phone at Lumber River State Park around 3 p.m.

Officers were dispatched to the park where land and aerial searches were conducted. Mica Miller’s car was eventually found, and investigators later found her body and the gun in a swamp, the statement said.

Mica Miller, recently Facebook posts, had spoken about domestic violence and given advice on how to deal with it.

According to her family, she also struggled with mental health issues and had recently been treated at a psychiatric facility.

Her estranged husband has been temporarily relieved of his duties as pastor “for a period of healing, counsel and guidance in accordance with our charter,” according to a statement from his church.

A NewsNation correspondent said the husband said via email that he never hurt his wife.
