Royersford man shot on PA Turnpike dies; suspect commits suicide in Berks

State police said a Montgomery County man was shot in the head last Friday in an apparent act of road rage on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The suspect was found dead in Berks County a day after the shooting.

The man who was shot, a 40-year-old from Royersford, died Monday at Reading Hospital, according to state police.

The suspect, a 59-year-old man from Dinwiddie, Virginia, was found dead Saturday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said Monday. He was in the cab of a white semi-trailer that police identified as the suspect vehicle.

State police did not name the two men. The motive for the shooting appeared to be a road rage incident, police said.

The shooting occurred around 1:15 p.m. Friday on the eastbound turnpike at mile marker 291.3 in Brecknock Township, Lancaster County, police said.

State police continue to ask any witnesses who were traveling on the Turnpike between the Lebanon-Lancaster and Reading interchanges between 12:45 p.m. and 1:15 p.m. Friday to contact State Police in Lancaster at 717-299-7650.
