“RCCG has not suspended Pastor Iluyomade from the City of David”

Sources in the know have dismissed viral reports on the alleged suspension of the Senior Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) City of David Parish, Region 20, Idowu Iluyomade.

Naija News According to reports, various media outlets had previously speculated that Pastor Iluyomade had been suspended for three months.

However, a source who spoke to Vanguard about the situation said the clergyman was merely transferred to another parish, Throne of Grace, Ebute Metta, Lagos, which serves as the mission headquarters.

This news platform understands that transfers are a common practice in the RCCG and are often based on the needs of the church and the abilities of the pastor.

A source within the church told reporters that the transfer of Pastor Iluyomade was officially announced and confirmed last Sunday, June 2, 2024, during the monthly Thanksgiving service in all RCCG congregations.

According to the source, his new role is in RCCG Region 1, Ebute Metta, where he will serve as Pastor-in-Charge of Elders.

However, it was learnt that Pastor Iluyomade had previously expressed his dissatisfaction over not having reached the retirement age of 70. This dissatisfaction stems from his desire to continue serving the RCCG congregation in the City of David Parish where he has been serving for several years.

Another source also revealed that Pastor Charles Kpandei, who is in charge of RCCG Resurrection Church in Region 11, has been asked to replace Iluyomade in the City of David Church.

The source said the two pastors were facing a transfer after serving in the two congregations for eight years.

He said: “Changes in leadership are normal. Most of the RCCG pastors are transferred. The church transfers pastors back and forth, and two pastors, Iluyomade and Kanpdei, were due to be transferred.

“Both have worked as regional pastors for more than eight years and have actually been transferred. RCCG pastors can even be transferred abroad. This has nothing to do with any events or politics. Both were in line for transfer.”

However, as of the publication of this report, the media platform had not been able to obtain a comment from Pastor Iluyomade.

Naija News is aware that disputes arose in the City of David parish following the 60th birthday celebration of Pastor Iluyomade’s wife, Siju, just nine days after the death of one of the parish’s major donors and former CEO of Access Holdings. Herbert Wigwealong with his wife Doreen and their son Chizzy in a helicopter crash in the United States.

This development is said to have caused a stir Rev. Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the RCCG.
