Toddler killed in hit-and-run accident in Hartford: Police

Hartford police said the toddler was running out the open door of a laundromat on New Britain Avenue when he was hit.

HARTFORD, Connecticut – A 1-and-a-half-year-old child was killed after being struck by a fleeing driver in Hartford, police said.

Shortly before 11 p.m., Hartford officers were called to a laundromat on New Britain Avenue on multiple reports of a toddler being struck by a car.

When emergency responders arrived at the scene, they found the girl unconscious on the street. She was taken to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Police say the toddler wandered through the open door of the laundromat and into the street. The car that hit her fled west on New Britain Avenue.

According to officials, the suspect vehicle is a black 2013 BMW 328xi with Connecticut license plate BD98328.

Hartford Police Crime Scene Investigation is investigating the fatal hit-and-run crash. Anyone with information is asked to call the Hartford Police Tip Line at 860-722-TIPS (8477).
