Houston: A 23-year-old Indian student who disappeared in the US state of California last week has been found and is “safe,” police said on Tuesday.

Nitheesha Kandula, a student at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUBS), disappeared in Los Angeles on May 28.

CSUSC Police Chief John Guttierez said in a post on X that she had been found and was safe.

“#MissingCSUSBUpdate: The missing student identified in this bulletin, who was reported missing in Los Angeles on May 28, 2024, has been located and is safe!” Guttierez said, without providing further information on her whereabouts.

Police had asked the public for help in locating Nitheesha, who is said to be from Hyderabad, and urged anyone with information about her whereabouts to contact the authorities.

In the police’s written statement, she was described as 5’6″ tall, weighing about 165 pounds, with black hair and black eyes.
