Missing Davie County woman killed in murder-suicide, officials say

DAVIE COUNTY, NC (WGHP) — Investigators have confirmed that the death of a Davie County woman who went missing earlier this year week was the result of a murder-suicide.

At around 10 p.m. Wednesday, officers went to a home in the 300 block of Country Lane to check on Cynthia “Cindy” Roberson Gobble, 60, of Mocksville. Family members reported they had not been able to reach her since late afternoon.

According to investigators, she was in the midst of an ongoing separation and divorce from Gregory Wayne Gobble, 59, of Mocksville.

Officers on scene confirmed that she was not at home and found evidence that she had not left the house on her own.

Family members said it was strange to have been unreachable for so long and her personal belongings were found in her vehicle.

Investigators and family members checked locations where Cynthia and Gregory Gobble frequented and attempted to contact both of them electronically, but to no avail.

Officers were also unable to locate Gregory’s white Ford truck, although they were able to confirm that he had been driving that truck the previous Wednesday.

Both were subsequently reported missing and a police search for them and the white Ford truck was launched.

On Thursday, investigators searched the house on Country Lane to continue searching for the missing couple. Ashanti alert issued for Cynthia, with Gregory identified as the suspect in connection with her disappearance.

The warning said there were indications of “physical danger, abduction or kidnapping.”

On Friday, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office received a call about two bodies found in a wooded area just across the Iredell-Davie County line, near Sheffield Road.

Investigators from both counties determined that the bodies were those of Cynthia and Gregory Gobble.

Both died from gunshot wounds and the weapon was found at the scene, according to the Davie County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators say Gregory shot and killed Cynthia before shooting himself.

Deputies say they are not looking for any other suspects or persons of interest in the case and that there is no ongoing danger to the public.
