Oxford trial for “rape by stranger”: Two female students “raped” by man

Nigel Hunt is charged with four counts of rape which allegedly occurred on October 30, 2021, and one count each of assault by penetration and rape which allegedly occurred on May 1, 2023.

The 30-year-old is accused of raping two 18-year-old female students who did not know Hunt or each other.

Each of the incidents is said to have occurred after a night-time party in downtown Oxford.

Hunt, of William Kimber Crescent, The Old Nursery, Headington, denied the offences and told police the incident involving the teenagers was consensual.

A jury heard Monday (June 3) during the opening of the trial that the first teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was celebrating Halloween when she met Hunt at a club.

She said the two kissed and she agreed that he could go home with her, but expressed that she did not want to have sex.

The girl said she found it “strange” that she was 18 and he was 28 at the time.

She told police: “I told him, ‘No, I don’t think we should have sex since you’re 28.’ He said, ‘How can you take me to your room if we’re not going to have sex?'”

She said the two then fell asleep, but she woke up to find Hunt allegedly attacking her.

“I kept thinking, ‘This isn’t happening, this can’t be true,’ but obviously it was true. I remember starting to scream.

“I know he raped me at least four times.”

A jury heard that the second plaintiff, who also cannot be named, met the defendant almost two years later, on May 1, after a night of drinking in a kebab shop.

She agreed to return to Hunt’s house, where he allegedly raped and assaulted her.

The teenager had originally told police that Hunt “took her” to the car and “carried her” into the apartment, but later admitted that this was an inconsistency as she did not want her father, who was present during the police interview, to think she had drunk too much.

There is no doubt that Hunt was the perpetrator in both alleged incidents, but he states that both cases were consensual.

He also denies that some of the sexual acts described by the girls took place.

The process continues.
