BROOKFIELD – Dan Faustino has worked for the Brookfield Police Department for 33 years, including 27 as chief.

Municipal councilors as well as police colleagues and staff thanked Faustino on Monday for his service to the community.

The trustees presented Faustino with a plaque featuring a folded U.S. flag.

Faustino began working with the department in February 1985. He left the department for several years to work with the Liberty Township Police Department, but then returned to Brookfield and was named chief in 1997.

“He has served the community well,” Said trustee Dan Suttles. “We appreciate all you have done for the community.”

Suttles said Faustino was “a numbers person” and always had the police budget under control.

Faustino inspired many, said trustee Shannon Devitz, and had extensive knowledge of the community that he shared with others.

“We will remember you for many years to come,” She said.

Trustee Mark Ferrara said that as department head, Faustino was available 24 hours a day when called by trustees.

“He knew Brookfield inside and out. Whether he was working or on vacation and we needed to talk to him, he always called back, no matter what day or time of day.” said Ferrara.

Faustino’s accomplishments during his time at Brookfield included establishing a detention center in 2013, hiring a school resource officer in 2019, introducing a safety awareness night for the public in 2020, and securing numerous grants for body-worn cameras, car camera systems, and body armor.

Many of Faustino’s family members were involved in law enforcement. For example, his father, Fred, was a captain of detectives in Liberty and his mother, Carol, was a chief dispatcher for the Trumbull County Deputy Sheriff’s Office.

Faustino will retire on June 30th.

HELP VIENNA

In other business, Ferrara said Brookfield Police and Fire Departments are assisting Vienna with emergency calls as Vienna Police and Fire Departments have reduced their staffing levels.

Vienna has been struggling with financial problems and has had to lay off police officers and firefighters in recent months.

“We want to help our neighbors. We will help as much as we can. We stand behind them.” Suttles said Vienna would help if Brookfield were in the same situation.

Suttles said calls from Brookfield were a priority and that Vienna police and firefighters would provide assistance when they were able.

Faustino also reported that police were patrolling the intersection of State Routes 62 and 82, where there had been reports of speeding.
