Buffalo woman arraigned for loitering and resisting arrest during May Day protest

Pro-Palestinian protester Jazmine Frazier was arraigned on one count of resisting arrest, a misdemeanor, and one count of loitering, a violation, in Amherst Municipal Court last Wednesday. according to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office.

Due to his alleged conduct during Pro-Palestinian May Day rally, Frazier, 33, is the only protester to be charged with a criminal offense. According to the UB, 14 other demonstrators are confronted non-criminal violation charges, such as loitering, trespassing and disorderly conduct. Seven are UB students who will not face disciplinary measures on campus.

Frazier allegedly attempted to break the plastic handcuffs that had been placed on him and placed on the ground to prevent officers from taking him to a patrol vehicle.

She was released on her own recognizance and is expected to return July 3 for a pretrial conference. If convicted of the highest charge, she faces up to a year in prison.

His indictment comes a month after around 85 pro-Palestinian protesters attempted a camp in front of Hochstetter Hall to call on the UB Foundation to divest from Israel-linked businesses. When protesters refused to disperse at 8:22 p.m., police forcibly arrested 15 protesters. A police officer allegedly ripped off a protester’s hijab.

The remaining 14 protesters are expected to appear in Amherst Municipal Court on Tuesday.
