Road aggression leads to fatal shooting in Clearfield after hit-and-run

One person was killed in a hit-and-run incident in Clearfield City that resulted in a shooting. Police believe the cause was road rage.

1200 West from 200 to 300 North was closed Monday evening while Clearfield police investigated the scene.

According to police, Layton City Emergency Services received a 911 call reporting a hit-and-run accident near SR-193 and Industrial Pkwy in Clearfield.

The 911 caller, a man in his 30s, followed the other car, which apparently tried to elude the caller, police said.

According to police, both vehicles turned into a residential area, where the pursued car stopped and the driver, a man in his 60s, got out of his car and walked toward the emergency caller.

“This encounter ended in a shootout in which the driver of the fleeing vehicle died,” police said.

The caller was arrested when police arrived and officers said they would cooperate with the investigation.

Several authorities assisted in the incident.
